HP Procurve configuration sanitization
Research performed in the Stril Networks lab early spring 2015 discovered that tested Procurve switches leave ALL configuration data intact in flash memory even though the vendors' "factory-reset" method is performed. Information that can be recovered includes passwords as well as the full configuration. The most recent, and also previous historic versions.
To overcome this problem, an automated tool called Sanitty was developed. It connects to the switch over the console port, investigates the file system structure and sanitizes the configuration data. Byte by byte. With verification.
